Why you really can’t miss Founders’ Network: The Summit

21 Feb, 2017

If you’ve seen our ads for Founders’ Network: The Summit and you’re not sure yet whether you can a) take the time out b) make the journey over or c) muster the energy for another startup event, here’s why you really should.

We’ve wrapped up all the goodness from our six-month programme of educational workshop-led events into one day, under one roof, with a great lunch, afternoon tea, and plenty of coffee to keep you going. And it’s probably going to be the most insightful (and just plain useful) startup event you’ll go to.

The speakers

We chose our 10 speakers and facilitators because, quite simply, they’re people you should hear from. Keynote speaker Alex Depledge founded, built and sold UK-based domestic cleaning marketplace startup, Hassle.com. As CEO, Alex took the firm to a Series A funding round of $6 million and 70 full-time employees within 12 months of launch – using the investment to quickly take the startup into Ireland and Europe and making it one of London’s biggest successes.

We’re delighted to have Pete Smith (founder of Songkick), Deb McGargle (Tech Stars mentor), and Gerald Vanderpuye (founder of Buyerdeck) bring their expertise and passion to lead workshops on hiring and leadership, cap tables, and sales and negotiation. We have mentors on hand for one-to-one sessions on a range of topics. And we’ll be rounding off the day with a lively fireside chat with successful founders Laura Moore, Guy Levine and Paulina Sygulska.

The workshops

The idea with this event is you can pick and mix depending on your particular needs, challenges and business stage. Including these three workshops:

  • Nailing that crucial deal: preparation, sales & negotiation
  • Building a mature organisation: sourcing, hiring, and leadership
  • Planning the financial future of your business: cap tables and investment

The Unconference

If you’ve not experienced an unconference before, you’re in for a treat. In essence, an unconference is crowd-sourced peer-to-peer learning, with a schedule that we will build on the day, expertly facilitated by Samantha Deakin Hill. Get your thinking hats on – have you got a topic you’re expert in and can share with us? Have you got a particular, maybe universal, challenge that you need to work through? Let us know.

The people

We often ask our Founders’ Network members what they appreciate most about the six-month programme, and one of the most common responses is the opportunity to meet other founders and industry experts. Where those workshop events are relatively small, at The Summit you’ll have the chance to meet heaps of other founders, air that problem you’ve been experiencing, and even benefit from one-to-one mentoring sessions with seasoned entrepreneurs.

What’s more, Xero are kindly offering a 50% discount for 6 months on their market-leading online accounting software to all Founders’ Network Summit attendees on the day.

So do take the time out, make the train journey, and benefit from what’s set to be a top-notch event for founders.

It’s on Thursday 2 March at The Hilton in Sheffield and runs from 9.30am to 6pm. See you there.
