Leeds Digital Jobs Fair fuels the city’s growing tech sector

30 Sep, 2016

One part of a healthy tech ecosystem that is often not considered is a good recruitment event. Leeds now has its own in the form of the Leeds Digital Job Fair.

The first event took place earlier this year and was the brainchild of Amy De-Balsi. “I’m a graduate of Leeds University and wanted to stay in the city but at that time it was really difficult to know who the employers were,” she says. “It just seemed an obvious solution to bring the employers together, firstly on the Herd job board and then with the inaugural job fair in February 2016 to showcase our amazing employers.

“The first event was hugely successful with 33 companies and 1,300 attendees so we’ve come back again.”

Version 2.0

The Leeds Digital Job Fair 2.0 takes place on October 20th and De-Balsi is promising a bigger, more ambitious event. There will be 50 stands, and the likes of Sky Bet, Ten10, Callcredit, YBS and NHS Digital have all signed up to exhibit. 2,000 attendees are expected, ranging from graduates to experienced candidates.

Leeds has made more of a mark on the digital world than its current profile might suggest. Don’t believe me? There’s even a movie-length documentary about it. Employers in the city are keen to attract skilled workers both from within the city and beyond. The growth of this event is testament to a growing scene.

A good careers event can help a city’s tech sector thrive. London’s Silicon Milkroundabout made a real impact when it first launched, and the Manchester Digital Skills Festival is an important annual event in that city’s calendar.
