3 questions with… Gemma Milne, Tech Innovation Strategist at Ogilvy Labs

13 Apr, 2016

So the Business Rocks Summit takes place in Manchester next week on Thursday 21st and Friday 22nd April and we thought we’d check in with some of the event speakers to ask them three quick-fire questions ahead of the event. Here’s Gemma Milne – Tech Innovation Strategist at Ogilvy Labs and former chef, investment banker, teacher and door-to-door salesperson.

Gemma Milne works as a Tech Innovation Strategist at Ogilvy & Mather Group in the innovation team, Ogilvy Labs. Ogilvy & Mather Group is an international advertising company creating campaigns for Dove, American Express, BA and

Philips, to name a few. Her role in Ogilvy Labs is to ensure Ogilvy is innovating both internally and for their clients by employing new technology, ideas and ways of working. She researches emerging trends, experiments with developing technology and partners with various industries to bring the incredible outside world of innovation into the agency.

What will you be talking about at the Business Rocks event?

The story of how we disrupted a large organisation and acted as ‘intrapreneurs’ to make sure Ogilvy collaborates, learns from external experts and stays ahead of the curve. It’s not all been a walk in the park so we will talk about the lessons we’ve learnt and the struggles we’ve had along the way. We will also touch on how startups can best work with corporates and share our wants and needs when it comes to collaboration.

What are you working on at the moment?

We are currently researching the future of travel, tourism, logistics and cities and will soon be moving our research onto the future of health.

What’s your view of the digital tech scene in the north of England?

It’s a scene which we in Ogilvy Labs are excited to tap into much further, starting at Business Rocks!

Business Rocks takes place in Manchester Central on 21 – 22 April and promises to be a ‘global tech and investment summit, brought to life with music’. With Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak as the headline speaker, it’s an event that’s set to put Manchester and Northern tech on the international map.
