The word ‘infrastructure’ is generally used in the tech world to refer to internet connectivity. But technology can help with other forms of infrastructure too; have you ever thought how it could aid the water industry? That’s the focus of an upcoming, week-long festival in Newcastle.
The NWG Innovation Festival will see Northumbrian Water and other energy and water companies seek out solutions to problems facing the future of their industry.
The remit is broad, covering everything from leaky pipes, to reducing flooding, to optimising mobile workforces, to a wider look at life in the year 2030.
What’s impressive here is the variety of organisations involved. In addition to Northumbrian Water there are other firms also owned by CK Hutchison Holdings, like UK Power Network, Northern Gas Network, and telecoms firm 3. Key partners include IBM, Microsoft, Ordnance Survey, BT, Virgin Media Business, Accenture and many more.
Creative Fuse, which brings together five local universities, is also involved. Schools and businesses from the region will also have a part to play.
How do you get involved?
The NWG Innovation Festival takes place on 10-14 July 2017 at Newcastle Racecourse.
If it sounds like something you’d like to be involved with, keep an eye on the Tech North Twitter account. We’ll soon be giving away five pairs of ‘golden tickets’ to attend on the Thursday afternoon and evening.
