Tech Nation focus: how Newcastle’s tech scene shapes up in 2017

The Tech Nation 2017 report was published yesterday and gives a comprehensive overview of the tech and digital sector across the UK.

The report features 30 city clusters including eight in the North of England. Manchester, Liverpool, Leeds, Sheffield, Hull, Sunderland, Newcastle and Middlesbrough.

Here’s what it says about Newcastle.

  • 2nd in the UK for high-growth digital businesses at 22% (2014)
  • Joint 4th in the UK (with Leeds) for average digital salary at £51,213
  • One of the top 10 cities for house price affordability
  • Scores highly for digital tech skills

The Tech Nation report highlights True Potential and Performance Horizon for being companies with ‘significant staying power’. And it points to all eyes now being on the North East Futures UTC (university technical college) which is set to open in September 2018.
